Fire Prevention
Fire prevention and education is one of the foremost programs provided by the Grand Island Rural Fire Department. We are proud to sponsor one of four 'smoke trailers' in the state of Nebraska. A smoke trailer is a specially designed education trailer that allows various situations to be illustrated in a safe manner.
We travel to a number of places to educate the public about fire safety. Our biggest time of the year is the first week in October during Fire Prevention Week. This time was specifically designated by the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) to focus on fire safety education. We do make the smoke trailer available other times throughout the year based on crew availability, weather conditions, and distance requirements. If your civic group is interested in having the smoke trailer available, please contact a member of the Grand Island Rural Fire Department about your request.
